What kind of one to one coaching do you offer?A different one, I think. At heart, I'm a counsellor and come into any therapeutic relationship with a belief that we are equals and the work is team work. I have created what I'm calling "therapeutic coaching" which is a blend of coaching and counselling. Whilst it is forward focussed, as most coaching is, I believe that sometimes, it's our past that can have an effect on our creativity and how we live our lives, so we will work therapeutically if needed and, most importantly, if you want to. I bring lots of experience in different approaches into my work, including creative work, movement, bodywork (or a somatic approach), play, several different counselling approaches, neuroscience and the effect that our nervous system has on us, self compassion and mindfulness among others. Ultimately, I tailor my approach to you as an individual, and that might include structured exercises, spontaneous exploration, time when it's important to be serious and time having fun. Equally, sometimes, you might just want to talk to someone who is not going to judge you, or you might want to get more goal-oriented for a while and figure out how you're going to get to where you want to get to. Whatever helps you, as long as we work safely and are respectful of each other at all times. Occasionally, it becomes apparent that some alternative approaches might be supportive. If this arises, then I will do my best to help you find other therapists, coaches, teachers etc to work with, either in collaboration with our work or instead of. At the end of the day, the most important consideration is that you get what you need from the work, whether it's with me, or someone else. If you have any other questions about my approach, please just get in touch with me and I'll do my best to answer them.

Where will the coaching sessions take place?Whilst we can do some work online via Zoom, the most creative way of engaging with this work is in person. I have a dedicated room in the centre of Hastings with free parking, so most of the sessions would ideally take place there. Under certain circumstances, I can travel to you, but this would need to be discussed and booked well in advance. There would be additional costs for this. For example, if you are having problems when you are in certain environments, such as a recording studio or a film set, we could do some work in that environment, if it can be organised.

How long will it take? This is such a difficult question to answer, as everyone is different. My intention is that each session is beneficial to you and that you would take something away from just one session. However, it depends on what you want from the work and what is getting in the way of your creativity, so you may find that you want more than one session. If you have a deadline or budget to work to, then let's talk about it and see whether, realistically, you might be able to get what you want out of the work that we do. In time, I hope to be offering group sessions, as well as one to one sessions, so if budget is an issue, then that might be a solution, as they will be cheaper. They will be more generalised, but nevertheless, helpful, I hope.

Can you help me learn to paint/sing/dance etc?Whilst Releasing Creativity is all about helping you to find your way of being creative, my work is more to do with understanding and helping you from a psychological and emotional perspective. We can, if you want to, include an artistic aspect to how we approach this, whether it be through a visual expression or movement or music (or whatever approach works best for you, such as photography, cooking etc etc). Equally, you may like to bring a creative project, that you are feeling blocked, around to the sessions and we can work specifically with that, if that appeals to you. However, I am not an art/singing/acting teacher, so it's more about helping you to free yourself up.

Can you help me with performance anxiety? The short answer is yes. This is an area that creativity coaching can be really helpful for. However, will your anxiety go away completely? My guess is probably not, as we need a certain amount of adrenaline (the hormone behind anxiety) to perform well. Please let me know if this is something that you would like to work on.

Who is the Burnout Recovery Retreat for?The short answer is that it's for anyone who is burnt out. The beauty of it is that we can tailor it specifically to your individual needs and what works for you. Essentially, it's a retreat for one and we can bring as much or as little into your time, as feels right to you. If you still aren't sure if it's right for you, then you'd be welcome to get in touch, so that we can have a chat about it.
